COPPA Statement

The short version
Children under 13 may not create or operate an independent Root account. Youth registration is completed by an adult parent or legal guardian. The adult controls the family account; a child roster record does not receive its own password, inbox, or public profile by default.
What we do NOT collect from children under 13
- Personal email addresses (children under 13 don’t have their own account inbox with us).
- Phone numbers.
- Precise geolocation (lat/lng, street addresses).
- Social media handles.
- Academic data such as GPA or test scores for ordinary club registration.
- Photos, video, or public profile information as a condition of basic tryout registration.
What a club registration may collect
- The child’s name.
- Date of birth (so we know the age tier and apply the right rules).
- The selected program, age group, team, or session.
- The guardian’s contact information (so we can reach the guardian, not the child).
- Guardian authority, privacy-consent choice, notice version, timestamp, and verification status.
- Optional medical, accessibility, or placement notes only when the guardian chooses to provide them.
The registration page provides a direct notice before this information is submitted and links to the fuller privacy explanation. Clubs should not make non-essential child information mandatory.
Verifiable parental consent
Email confirmation and a password help secure the adult account, but RootSoccer does not represent those steps alone as a universally sufficient method of verifiable parental consent. The verification method depends on how the child information will be used and may include a qualifying payment-card transaction, a signed or manually reviewed authorization, or another method reasonably designed to confirm the consenting person is the parent or legal guardian. A self-attestation is recorded as pending verification, not as universal verified consent.
Consent for disclosure to a non-integral third party is separate from consent needed to operate the registration. Declining an optional disclosure does not block the child from participating in the underlying program.
How a guardian controls their child’s data
At any time, a guardian can:
- Ask what child information the club and RootSoccer hold.
- Request access to or correction of that information.
- Revoke consent and request deletion of the child roster information.
- Decline further collection or use.
Some transaction, chargeback, safety, or legal records may need to be retained for a defined period with access restricted; child profile information is not retained merely because it may be useful later. Start at privacy choices or see guardian controls.
